The Port of San Diego will be hosting a temporary art installation at the newly upgraded Cesar Chavez Park Pier, located adjacent to Cesar Chavez Park, 1449 Cesar E. Chavez Parkway, San Diego.
Commissioned under the Port’s Curatorial Plan, the temporary project features an interactive sound art experience by artist Margaret Noble. Titled “Time Strata,” the installation can be experienced on the pier for two separate Saturdays, October 22 and 29, 2016 from 2-5 p.m. at a free public event held on both days. Free doughnuts and refreshments will be available.
At the two events, attendees will be able to create their own personal sonic experience by mixing together and altering - in real time – sounds produced in the surrounding environment as well as those produced by three custom sound sculptures: “Tide Rattler,” “Wheel Chime” and “Wind Harp.”
On Tuesday, October 18, the Port of San Diego’s Office of Arts & Culture is also hosting its “Open Sessions” public event which features creative conversations with artists. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the upcoming art projects commissioned by the Port this fall, and join in a public conversation with artist Margaret Noble, artist/designer team Jose Parral and Tasia Paulson, and Port Chief Curator Yvonne Wise. The discussion is from 6 to 7 p.m. at Woodbury School of Architecture, 2212 Main Street, San Diego and refreshments will be available.
Additionally, as part of National Arts & Humanities month, Port staff has developed self-guided walking tours of the Port’s public art collection, which features 70 public artworks. There are tours for the Coronado bayside, Imperial Beach oceanfront, Chula Vista bayfront, National City Marina District and San Diego’s Embarcadero and Shelter Island.
